Good Monday, INTERNET!
I changed up the way the blog looks. I know, I know, I didn’t consult you, but that’s just how I roll. You like?

Florida strikes again- HOLY SHIT! I used to live blocks from this place. Absolutely heartbreaking, and confirms my suspicion that Marianna, FL is, in fact, the 4th Ring of Hell, and that I did the right thing in taking my family away from there. I remember the moment I decided to leave my ex-husband after we had been married for a while, because it was the day he divulged to me that his family had been founding members of the local Klan, and that his whole family were proud of it. I had a great movie weekend, guys. You know that feeling you get when you watch more than one completely magnificent film after another? That is me, because I am 4-0 right now! I just wanted to take a minute to share my gems with you, new and old. Disclaimer: you should have a strong stomach when watching any of the following movies.
Argo - This goes without saying. What an amazing movie. It’s no wonder the first lady was asked to award Ben Affleck for this film at the Oscars. (2012)
Thale – This is a Norwegian folklore movie and it kept me all edgy the whole damn time. I didn’t really understand some things at the end, and I was totally OK with that. (2012)
Repo! The Genetic Opera – This one has been out for a while, but I just saw it last night, and I am so glad I did. It’s pulpy and gothic, and funny, and it has Giles from Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire. What else is there? (2008)
Gangster Squad – Think of this as an updated Dick Tracy with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. This is not meant to be a serious drama flick. It is hilarious in it’s hyperbolic use of cliches about LA in the 40′s. I loved it, but it’s about not having expectations. Plenty of action, humor, and cool effects.
*Some of the links for today have a few grammatical errors in them. I am aware of this, but I still think that the substance of these particular pages is more important than the correctness of the grammar contained within, as much as it grates on my grammar-nazi nerves.
My name is Athena Holter-Mehren, and I am a progressive Air Force spouse, parent, student, and blogger(and sooooo many other labels). This is my attempt at “being hated for who I am instead of loved for who I’m not,” or something like that… it sounded so much better in the pin on Pinterest. Make sure that you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, if you are into that sort of thing(I try to post most weekdays, as well as some Deep Ponderings with the Spouse on some weekends), and share with your friends who want to be cool like us. Seriously, you never know what the hell is going to come outta my mouth, next. Half the time, I don’t even know. Don’t forget to check out my other blog, Kaffeeklatsch with Athena, where I document my kitchen antics purely for your entertainment.
You are now free to go on with your week.
